Earl G. Brevig

Earl G. Brevig, 90 of La Crescent, Minn., died on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Gundersen Health System of La Crosse. Earl was born in a small town near Rushford, Minn., on August 2, 1927 to Melvin and Myrtle (Moger) Brevig. He was confirmed at the Oak Ridge Lutheran Church in Highland Prairie, Minn. Earl married Rosemary Byers in La Crosse in 1952. For sixteen years he had worked at Erickson Bakery in La Crosse then began a career in farming in the Ridgeway area for 40 years. He finished his working career with twelve years at Greenview Rest Area in Dresbach, Minn., retiring at the age of 86.

Earl enjoyed camping and fishing with the family, walking and throwing a ball with his beloved dog “Betsy”. While working at the rest area, he enjoyed the opportunity to talk with people from all over the world. Earl and Rosemary were also longtime members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent.

In addition to his wife of 65 years Rosemary Brevig of La Crescent, Earl is survived by four children; Larry Brevig, Linda (Jim) Walter, Mike (Nancee) Brevig, Karla (Darryl) Oitzman, six grandchildren; Jason Brevig, Pam Brevig (Chatham), Laura A. Brevig, Shawn (Laura) Brevig, Brad (Melissa) Brevig, Tyler Oitzman and eleven great-grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister Doris Olson, one brother Ronald Brevig, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog “Betsy”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Melford, Caroll and Arlyn Brevig, brother in law Gerald Olson and niece Christine Rodgers.

The family would like to recognize and extend special thanks to Dr. Kyla Lee, Jane Bissen RN, Sister Marcia Baumbert and Pastor Kent Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent. Pastor Kent Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call on the family Friday morning at the church from 10am until the time of services.
