Duane H. Flatten

Duane Harvey Flatten, 83, of La Crescent, MN, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at The Veterans Hospital in Tomah, WI. He was born on October 15, 1940 in La Crosse, WI to Harvey and Frances (Ives) Flatten. On August 15, 1987 he married Brenda Buttikofer in La Crescent, MN.

Duane had proudly served his country in the United States Army. He had worked for Gateway Foods in La Crosse for 31 years. He was a faithful member of the La Crescent United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion Post #595 in La Crescent, MN. Duane enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening, cooking, camping, woodworking, and wine making.

Duane is survived by his wife of 36 years, Brenda; daughter, Cheryl (Keith) Graham; son, Troy (Kelly) Flatten; grandchildren, Ryan (Kris) Blexrud, Andrew (Kelly) Blexrud, Alex Blexrud, Emily Blexrud-Graham, Bobbi (Gabe) McDowell, Becky (Andrew) Waak, and Richie Graham; great-grandchildren, Camden, Ella, Evie, Aksel, Nora, Jessa, Jack, Hayden, Payton, and Blakely; brother, Dick (Sharon) Flatten; sisters-in-law, Pam (Jim) Moore, Diane (Andy) Begeman; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Pam) Buttikofer and Fred Buttikofer; and many nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Fred and Lillian Buttikofer; sisters, Pat Brown, Marge Kluzik; step-father, Palmer Boyum; great-grandsons, Levi Blexrud, Micah McDowell; six brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and six nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at the La Crescent United Methodist Church, La Crescent, MN on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

The family expresses sincere gratitude to the CNAs, nurses, and staff at the Tomah Veterans Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Duane are preferred to the Veterans Hospital in Tomah, WI or the La Crescent United Methodist Church.
