Douglas Arthur Newman died on November 11, 2024 in his La Crescent home surrounded by his family.
Doug was born on July 25, 1955 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Clifford and Myrtle Newman. He attended school in Holmen, Wisconsin and graduated in 1973. After graduation Doug joined the Navy and served his country until 1975 when he was medically discharged due to a severe injury.
In 1977 he married Diane Bashaw in Onalaska, Wisconsin and they were married 47 years. They were true soulmates and she was by his side until his death.
Douglas worked as a master plumber while living in Wisconsin. In 1984 he moved his family to Dallas, Texas where he worked as a mechanical engineer until 2016. He was well known and well liked by his colleagues. In the summer of 2024 he returned to the north and resided in La Crescent, Minnesota for his final days.
Douglas was an incredible athlete enjoying wrestling and baseball as a young man. In his adult years he could be found on a golf course, on a softball diamond or with a fishing pole in his hand.
Doug is survived by his children, Taya Wade, Liza Bruce, Jenna Dunn and son-in-law Chad Dunn; 6 grandchildren, Jackson Wade, Lochlan Wade, Lilyana Wade, Nathan Dunn, Katelyn Dunn, Elizabeth Bruce; 2 great grandchildren Memphis and Biloxi Dunn. He is also survived by his 3 brothers, 3 sisters and by many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Myrtle Newman; his brother, Bob Newman; and his beautiful daughter, Kristin Lily Newman.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the La Crescent Event Center. A military salute will begin promptly at 11:00 am followed by a brief ceremony and fellowship of friends and family.
