Dorothy Mae Schaefer

Dorothy M. Schaefer, 91 of La Crescent, Minn., died on Friday, June 30, 2017 in her home. She was born on April 3, 1926 in La Crosse, Wis. to Jens and Mathilda (Durrhammer) Anderson. She married Louis Schaefer on September 6, 1952 in La Crosse and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1995.

She had worked at Dairyland Power for 43 years and was an active member of the La Crescent United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed her houseboat, card club, vacations with Louie, shopping, knitting, reading, her granddaughters and most recently her two great granddaughters.

She is survived by her daughter Julie (Dave) Burkhalter of La Crescent, granddaughters Kristal (Josh) Wieser of La Crosse, and Brooke (Devin) Rasmussen of Roberts, Wis., great granddaughters Adah Wieser and Avery Rasmussen; two sisters Helen Greider of La Crosse and Joanne Moore of La Crescent; one brother Merlin “Butch” (Karen) Anderson of Apple Valley, Minn. and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband Louis, she was preceded in death by her twin sister Delores Ritter, three brothers in law and a niece.

Memorial services will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the La Crescent United Methodist Church. Pastor Aaron Justice will officiate. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, La Crosse. Friends may call on the family Saturday morning at the church from 10am until the time of services.
