Dorothy J. Every

July 7, 1931 — February 6, 2021

Dorothy (Kjos) Every, 89, of Onalaska, died at home on Saturday, February 6, 2021 surrounded by her loving Family. She was born in Whitehall, Wisconsin on July 7 th 1931, to Albert and Clara (Estenson) Kjos. She married Clayton M. Every on January 30, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse.

Dorothy's work places include the Rivoli Pharmacy, the Coulee Superette, and as a waitress at the Fireside Supper Club along with her twin sister Delores. The work she is most proud of is being the co-founder of Every Plumbing in 1969 along with her husband Clayton.   She technically retired in 1996 although still kept involved in the business by helping out with things like answering the work phone and cleaning the office. When she surprised long time customers who thought she had retired by answering the phone, she would tell them she semi-retired and got her pay cut in half but still gets to work all the hours she wants.   She enjoyed being a part of the commercials filmed commemorating Every Plumbing’s 50 years in business. She had a quick wit and always a clever come-back whenever the opportunity arose.

Dorothy loved devoting time to her church and especially her time on Church Council and teaching confirmation classes.

In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, roller skating, dancing, fishing, camping with family, especially at the Back 40, and shopping trips with her daughters.   Dorothy and her sisters played fast pitch soft ball in their younger days, winning a state championship. She and Clayton were avid fans of the Barrel Inn women's fast pitch team and became their adopted Grandparents.   Dorothy loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly and treasured following their activities. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought so much joy to her life.

Dorothy is survived by her children; Sharon Kjos of Onalaska, Janice Fink of Sparta, Dennis (Mary) Every of Onalaska, John Every of Onalaska, and Jacqueline (Charles) Wallace of Waterloo, Wis.; grandchildren, Craig (Amy) Every, Penny (Jeff) Alibrandi, Brittany Geary, Brianna Every, and Hunter Wallace, great grandchildren Riley and Jackson Every and Nina and Hailee Alibrandi. She is also survived by three sisters, Delores Osweiler and Beverly Davis of Onalaska, and Audrey Wedwick of New Brighton MN and her brother Vernon Kjos of Boscobel along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many special friends. Dorothy treasured her visits with her great grandchildren Emma and Alaina Fink. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Clayton, son in law Richard Fink, her parents; five sisters and three brothers.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church or Sugar Creek Bible Camp. A video recording of Dorothy’s funeral service will be available on Thursday afternoon, February 11 th on the funeral home’s website and clicking on the Facebook icon.

Dorothy's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr Tiffany Marinier, Gundersen Hospice, Pastor Karyn Bodenschatz, Pastor Jason Stanton, Carol Peterson and the many people who kept her in their thoughts and prayers. A special thank you to her sister Audrey who came to provide loving care for her in her final weeks with us.
