Dorothy E. Crose

Dorothy Crose, 93, of La Crescent, MN, passed away the morning of August 26, 2024. She was born on an Easter Sunday, April 5, 1931, to Arvid and Ethel Carlson at their home in Porter, IN, the fifth of six children. She graduated from Chesterton High School in 1950 and was employed by the local newspaper, “The Chesterton Tribune”, for nine years. She married Harry Crose of La Porte, IN in 1959.

Dorothy and Harry enjoyed RV Camping on weekends. A year after Harry’s death in 1975, she made a trip to La Crescent to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Tom Vedell. She found some wooded land southwest of town and liked the serenity of the area, mainly the wild flowers and wildlife. She had a log house built and spent many enjoyable hours gardening and landscaping. In 2023 she moved to SpringBrook Village of La Crescent.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent, and prior to that, Augsburg Lutheran Church in Porter, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Betty Lee of MI, and Marilyn Vedell of MN; three brothers, Kenneth Carlson and Robert Carlson, both of Porter, IN, and Donald Carlson of London, TX, and Nephew, Ken Vedell of Minneapolis.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of SpringBrook Village and Gundersen Hospice for their care and kindness.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 4th at 10:00 am at Augsburg Cemetery in Porter, IN, with burial next to her husband. There will be no visitation at either church. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, La Crescent, MN and White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN will assist with arrangements.
