Doris Louise Picha

Doris Louise Picha, 96, of La Crosse, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Riverside Transitional Care in La Crosse. She was born on August 20, 1927 in Wonewoc, WI to Herman and Flora (Pohl) Gurgel. She married Earl Picha on August 5, 1947 in Wonewoc. Earl preceded her in death on September 1, 1980. Doris had worked as the Deputy register of Deeds and Register of Deeds in Vernon County and La Crosse County. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Doris enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and reading.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara E. Matz of Waukesha, WI and Jacqueline K. (Jonathon) Benrud of Onalaska, five grandsons, Robert and David Matz and Jason, Jarod, and Joshua Benrud, three granddaughters, Jennifer (Bradley) Michaelis, Jalena (Peter) Peterson, and Jana (Kyle) Schroeder, and twenty-two great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law Dennis Matz, two sisters and four brothers.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, La Crosse. Pastor David Leistekow will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Luther High School or Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church.
