Doris C. Koll

October 5, 1923 — May 16, 2024

Doris was born on the family farm outside of Chaseburg, WI to Albert and Emma (Hohfeld) Lenser on October 5, 1923. She was baptized and confirmed at St Peters Ev. Lutheran Church, Chaseburg, WI . She married Rueben Koll on April 10, 1948 at St Peters Ev. Lutheran Church in Chaseburg, WI.  Together they farmed for a short time before moving to La Crosse.  She worked at Woolworths Dime Store until the birth of their daughter and then became a full-time stay at home mom.

In her free time Doris loved to crochet, knit, sew, do embroidery and other crafts.  The grandma mittens she knitted were a family favorite gift at the holidays.  After Rueben’s retirement they enjoyed going to rummage sales and auctions.  At one point she had amassed over 1700 sets of salt and pepper shakers from those sales.  She also loved to play cards – euchre and pinochle especially – and she did hundreds of jigsaw puzzles.

After Ruebens death, she moved to Hillview Terrace Assisted Living where she continued to spend time playing cards, doing puzzles and playing bingo.  When her health started to decline recently she moved to Hillview Health Care Center.

She is survived by her daughter Linda (Ralph) Ghelf of De Soto, WI, her grandchildren:  Jennifer Ghelf (Dean Lange) of Norwalk, Iowa, Heather Ghelf  and her special friend Steven Alexandre of La Crosse, Amber Ghelf of Viroqua, WI,  Nicole (Kevin) Hanson of Viroqua, WI, Adam (Angelene) Ghelf of Blaine, MN, Benjamin (Amy) Ghelf of Lansing Iowa and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rueben, brother Donald Lenser, her parents and the aunts and uncle who helped raise her after her mother’s death.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 24th at 11:00 am at First Ev Lutheran Church in La Crosse.  Pastor Richard Pamperin will officiate.  Burial will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 am. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the staff of Gundersen Lutheran Home Hospice, the staff at Hillview Terrace and Hillview Healthcare Center for their wonderful care.
