Donald H. Johnson, 87, of Winona, MN passed away on March 10th, 2022, at Milestone Assisted Living in Eagle River, WI with his wife by his side.
Don was born on April 12,1934 to Henry and Helen (Husman) Johnson on the family farm in rural La Crescent, MN. He was the oldest of 5 boys and worked on the farm from when he was a young boy until he went to work for Bay State Milling in Winona, MN. Don worked at Bay State for nearly 40 years retiring in 1998.
On September 25, 1954, Don married the love of his life, Pauline Snyder. They resided in the Winona, MN area for over 60 years until moving to Holmen, WI in 2017 and then to Eagle River, WI in 2021.
Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pauline; his two children, Rick (Kay) Johnson of Corona, CA, and Debbie (Al) Huntington of Three Lakes, WI; six grandchildren, Dan (Rebecca) Johnson, Mike (Leah) Johnson, Carin (Stephen) Schmiel, Tim (Krista) Johnson, David Johnson, and Allison (Grant) Schlader; along with ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Dennis (Betty) of Ridgeway, MN, Dean (Denise), and Dwayne (Margaret) both of La Crescent, MN; a sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson of La Crosse; and nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Darrel.
Don will always be remembered for his quiet demeanor and big smile. He was truly a gentle man that will be missed by everyone that knew him. Don lived his life working hard and loved wearing Blue-Jeans. In honor of this, please consider joining Don’s family and wearing your favorite pair of Blue-Jeans as we celebrate his life at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home in Onalaska, WI at 1:00 PM on March 19, 2022. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Trempealeau Public Cemetery, Trempealeau, WI.
