Dennis V. Yeiter, 76, of La Crescent, MN passed away Monday, February 26th, 2024 at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with congestive heart failure complicated by Covid.
Dennis was born on April 27th, 1947 to Irvin (Bud) and Lois (Yolton) Yeiter. Dennis spent his entire working years in the insurance industry. He started his career after being recruited by his "much older" brother David as a Debit Agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance. He later joined MSI Insurance for many years. He and his brother joined forces to form Yeiter Insurance where they worked together until his retirement in 2011. Many of Dennis' agents followed him in the transition from MSI to American National Insurance. His agents were a mighty force within the company. Dennis forged a life-long friendship with the agents and their families. He deeply treasured their friendships and has kept in close contact with them throughout the years.
Dennis loved to travel. He and Vickie crisscrossed the United States and Canada by motorcycle. Often on his way home from a trip, he was planning his next trip. When the weather grew too cold to ride, Dennis and Vickie headed to Ft. Myers Beach. They were able to do so for over 45 years, forming many long-lasting friendships with other snowbirds. Dennis enjoyed the beach, the salt air, and beating everyone at bags. Most of the trips to Ft. Myers were enjoyed with special friends Larry and Joann Vetsch.
When Dennis and Vickie were not traveling, they enjoyed life on the "farm". Horses of all sizes were part of the farm, but Mister held a special place in his heart. Dennis looked forward to seeing Mister each morning and night for his apples or carrots because horse feed was just not enough. Mister lived his entire 31-year life on the farm with Dennis looking over him. They had a special bond. Along with horses, many deer were taken at the farm. Dennis rarely, if ever, failed to tag his deer. Dennis didn't need a new fancy deer gun, just his Winchester Model 12 and a box of Remington Sluggers which he hunted with his entire life. Dennis was always happy when his sons and grandkids hunted with him at the farm.
Family was a priority for Dennis. He was blessed with two sons who provided him with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Trips to Disney and the beach or just playing around at the farm were special to him and the outside world disappeared whenever they were near. Dennis excelled at building hay forts and even years after the horses left, he kept 200 bales from the harvest for building forts. There always seemed to be a different snowmobile, four-wheeler, or other hot commodity toy showing up for the grandkids to enjoy.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 55 years Vickie, sons Scott (Sarah), and Mike (Rhonda), grandchildren, Tristina (Scottie) Mahlum, Anna (Victoria) Larson, Emily Yeiter, Alex (Brenda Smoot) Yeiter, great-grandchildren Izellah (Izzy), Ava, Daxton, Rosemary, Denver and Zayveon (Zay), brother David (Nancy), sister Lorilee (Bob) Holliday, sister-in-law Susan Stellick (Gus Zabel), and many extended family and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Irvin (Bud) and Lois Yeiter, in-laws, Harold (Dewey) and Marjorie Stinson, and nephew Jeffery D. Stellick.
