DeLyle Vern Hanson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went home to be with his wife on November 5, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on January 3, 1939, in Ormsby, Minnesota, he was the youngest of four children to Maylon and Laura Hanson. Growing up as a farm kid, DeLyle’s early life instilled in him a strong work ethic and deep-rooted values that he carried with him throughout his life. Choosing to forge his own path beyond farming, DeLyle served his country in the Army and, upon returning, began a new chapter with his bride, Carol.
Together, DeLyle and Carol embarked on a journey that took them from Minnesota to Iowa, and finally to Wisconsin, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. They were devoted parents to Todd Hanson (Ava Grimslid), Jill Hanson (Fabio Anderle), Cyndee (Kerry) Redfearn, and Marilu Stepien, and their love extended to their grandchildren, Morgan, Chanlyr, Taylor, and Zach. DeLyle and Carol’s home was a welcoming place for all, and they embraced friends they met through work, travel, and neighbors, many of whom became like family. Their adventures together are legendary, and they leave behind a legacy of warmth and kindness, not to mention lots of FUN!
A talented salesman, DeLyle worked for many years with Electrolux vacuums and later became a well-loved car salesman in La Crosse, WI. After moving to Brice Prairie in the 1970s, he and Carol found joy in the river life, spending weekends boating, socializing, and enjoying the sandbars. DeLyle was also an exceptional woodworker; his skill and dedication turned wood into treasured keepsakes, each piece a reflection of his love for those around him.
DeLyle’s greatest pride and accomplishment was his 65-year marriage to Carol, along with the family they raised and cherished together. His love for his family was immense and unwavering, and he loved BIG in every sense of the word.
In honoring dad's wishes, a small graveside service will be held on Sunday. DeLyle was deeply moved by the love and generosity shown at Carol’s funeral earlier this year and expressed a desire for an intimate farewell surrounded by his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in DeLyle and Carol’s names to Gundersen Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Association, or First Lutheran Church of Onalaska.
