Della Mae Ward

Della Mae Ward, 93 of La Crosse, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Bluffview Memory Care in Holmen. She was born July 18, 1930, in the Town of Farmington, WI to Thomas and Ethel (Farnam) Jones and attended a couple of different one room schoolhouses in the Farmington area before the family moved to La Crosse. She then attended Lincoln School and graduated from Central High School.

Della had worked at the Electric AutoLite, W.T. Grant Department Store and as a nurse’s aide at Grandview Hospital. She continued her career as real estate broker and owner/operator of River City Realty in La Crosse for several years.

In 1948 she married Richard E. Schultz and they later divorced. She later married James Ward in Lewiston, ID and he preceded in death. Following James’ death, she returned to La Crosse. Della was an accomplished artist and loved to sew.

Della is survived by her daughter, Susan D. Whitewater of La Crosse; three grandchildren, Sam Whitewater, Richard Schultz and Nicole Schultz; five great-grandchildren, Toren, Mia, Ava, Koby and Kaylee; two sisters, Evelyn Albrecht and Betty Albrecht both of Tennessee, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband James, she was preceded in death by her son, Gordon Schultz; two sisters, Rose Howe and Mary Meyer and a brother, Charles Jones.

Private family services will be held with burial in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, La Crosse.
