Deborah “Debbie” J. Atchison, 70, of La Crosse, WI, died Friday, April 28, 2023, peacefully at home.
Debbie was born on September 27, 1952 in La Crosse, WI to Ralph and Coline (Loughlin) Atchison. She grew up in Onalaska & La Crosse, attended the Campus school, Washburn & Hogan Elementary schools, Lincoln Junior High and graduated from Central HS in 1970. She attended WTC in La Crosse where she became certified as a ward secretary. She worked at Rochester Methodist Hospital in that capacity for many years, then returned to the La Crosse area. She worked at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital for over 20 years. During her years at Gundersen she became trained as a coronary care unit technician, eventually becoming a scheduling, reporting, and billing specialist in that department. She later worked in customer service at Sprint and at T.J. Maxx in Onalaska. Debbie’s attention to detail and desire to understand every work process for any job she held made her a ‘go-to’ employee when work needed to be completed or problems needed to be solved. Debbie was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. She looked forward to any opportunity to go to Packer games at Lambeau field with her brother Tom, his wife Vicki or Debbie’s sisters Peggy and Penny. She loved gardening and truly had a green thumb. She had many nieces and nephews on whom she doted and is referred to by many of them as their favorite aunt.
Debbie is survived by siblings, Kitty Crary of Burnsville, MN, Peggy Merry of Spring Valley, MN, Penny O’Reilly (Kevin) of Onalaska, WI and Tom (Vicki) Atchison of Neenah, WI. She is also survived by nieces/nephews, Karen (Daniel) Smith, Kevin (Amy) Crary, Margaret (Jeff) Collins, Nadia Jones, Amanda (Matt) Shauck-Goldsmith, Joel (Vanessa) Merry, Paul (Deb Wojahn) Merry, Cameron & Regan; and great nieces/nephews, Kayleigh (Josiah), Aaron, Allyssa, Cassandra, Julia, Victoria, Bruce, Jon-Paul, Emily (Ben), Josh (Christina), Tyler, Mitike, Maquanet, Bete, Paige, Silas, Pearson, Aniela, Greyson, Zohrah and Elianah.
