David Charles Stewart, 76, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 in his home. He was born on July 7, 1944 in Chicago. He served with the US Army from 1966-1968. David married Sandra K. (Sveen-Strittmater) on July 28, 1973. David worked as a truck driver and then worked with his wife for 15 years in the tavern, Sandy’s Bar.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra, three stepsons, John, James and Jeff Strittmater, a step-daughter Pamela Welke, a granddaughter Maria N. Jimenez, two brothers, Bill (Deb) Stewart and Peter (Jill) Stewart of New York, Diane (Bob) Williams of Trempealeau, sister-in-law Jeanie (Dennis-deceased) Stewart, three sisters, Cindy (Charles) Glennie of Mindoro, Linda (Mark) McCormick of Onalaska, and Terry (Jeff) Mulikin of Holmen, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marge and Elmer Julian, his father Arthur Stewart, grandparents, two brothers, Roger Stewart in 2018 and Dennis Stewart on May 31, 2021, son-in-law Duane Welke, four sisters-in-law, Ardyce Koopman, Jean Dudley, Betty Sveen and Lori Sveen, and two brothers-in-law, Gordon and Hilmen Sveen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse. Rev. Martin Yeager will officiate. Entombment with military honors will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of services.
