David R. Morrell

David Richard Morrell, formerly of Onalaska, WI, born on June 22, 1954 to Richard George and Carrie Lucille (Harris) Morrell, peacefully passed onto his next phase of life on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Bethany – St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse, where he had made his home for the past 40 years. His education began at Emerson School as a pre-schooler for physical therapy. At school age he had in-home tutors as Inclusive Education was yet to be. He obtained his high school diploma from Onalaska High School. As Packer fans he and his dad traveled to Green Bay and met Bart Starr. He traveled with his parents around the country in their Airstream. Through his in-home mentor Tom, Dave was involved in the organizing of Riverfront at its beginning when on Market St. in La Crosse. After moving from home to BSJ he became a common site with his wheelchair on the sidewalks of S. La Crosse. He loved to play chess, scrabble and cards with family and friends.

He is survived by his sister Ellen Morrell Cordry; nieces and nephews, Keri (Don) Stenger, Katie (Danny Rommel) Cordry, Richelle Cordry, Jacob (Shawnee Semb) Cordry; great nieces and nephews, Destiny and Kaden Cordry, Sydney and Carson Stenger and Kalei Cordry along with several Harris and Thomason cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles, maternal grandparents Archie (Katie) Harris, paternal grandparents George (Sarah) Morrell, aunt Arlene (Chester) Thomason and cousin Judy (Larry) Hemker.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Oak Grove Cemetery – near Myrick Park. Pastor John Stennes-Spidahl will officiate. Social distancing guidelines will be observed. In lieu of flowers memorials will go towards a bench that will be given to BSJ Care Center in David’s memory.
