After a life of faith, David Arthur Horman peacefully passed away surrounded by family on December 10, 2024, at Gundersen Hospital at the age of 86.
A warm handshake and a comfortable conversation would let you know that Dave was interested in telling you about the game last night, a story about a coin, or the latest joke he heard from a friend. With an easy style and good spirit, he would enjoy spending time with you as neighbor, friend, devoted husband and father, business owner, and member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI. Being a lifelong resident of the La Crosse area also meant that it was difficult to find a room where Dave Horman wasn't known and loved.
As a young man, David graduated in 1956 from Central High School in La Crosse, WI. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hermitage and traveled to many ports on active duty and in the Naval Reserves until 1966. As a sailor, he enjoyed serving his country aboard his ship and at ports around the world.
Dave met the love of his life, Bonny Steinhoff, while working at the Bank of Sparta. Dave married Bonny on January 16, 1965. As an inseparable team, their devotion, love, friendship, care, and partnership is a beautiful example of an enriching, attentive and enduring marriage.
After a 29 year career in banking, Dave followed the entrepreneurial spirit of his father, and opened Dave’s Coins. David's passion for coin and currency collecting developed at a young age with his hobby blossoming into a successful shop that continues on under the ownership of his son Tim. Dave was always known to tell great stories about the history and value of coins and currency.
With a humble nature and outgoing personality, David touched the lives of many. Whether pigeon racing, coin collecting, cheering for the La Crosse Loggers or singing in the Immanuel Lutheran church choir he was a consistent presence and a warm and sincere friend. He enthusiastically volunteered as the Maple Shade 4-H Softball Team coach during the 1980's. He and Bonny hosted nine Logger baseball players in their home beginning with the team's inaugural season in 2003. Dave and Bonny cherished their relationships with the adopted players and loved cheering on the team every year.
David was born on May 8, 1938, in La Crosse, WI to Fred and Mildred (Fuhre) Horman. David was preceded in death by his Mother and Father. David is survived by his wife Bonita (Bonny), sons James (Vickie), Timothy, Robert, William (Emily Orendorff), and John Horman (Richard Kotovich Jr.), grandchildren Jessica, Alexander, Joshua, Samuel, and Casey Horman. Dave is also survived by his brother James (Sue) Horman and sister Marilyn (Mike) Kendhammer and many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
