David “Butch” Paul Bothe, 68, of rural La Crescent, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021 at the Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse. He fought a courageous battle for the past two and a half years with cancer. David was born on October 31, 1953 in La Crosse to Herbert and Bette (Chaffee) Bothe. He graduated from Onalaska High School and continued his education at Dunwoody Technical Institute in auto body repair with a specialty in painting. He retired from River States Truck and Trailer where he specialized in custom painting. His team won several national awards in customizing semi-trucks.
David married Kaye Arnett in 1983. David and Kaye rescued many animals and provided a loving home for them. He leaves behind his beloved dog Tyker.
David was preceded in death by his wife Kaye, her parents Donald and Donna Arnett, brother Vern Arnett, sister Lynne Arnett and stepfather Ralph Arnett. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Bette Bothe. He is survived by his sister Bonnie Veit, her children Thomas Veit and Heidi (Nick) Simler, his brother-in-law Lee (Mari) Arnett, and special friends Marlin and Gayle Timm and Larry and Curly Newcomb, who became his bonus family.
A private graveside service will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, South Ridge, MN with Pastor Debbie Quale officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Coulee Region Humane Society in La Crosse and the La Crescent Animal Rescue in La Crescent, MN
