David E. Breyer

March 11, 1961 — March 2, 2025

La Crescent, MN

David Breyer, 63, of La Crescent, Minnesota, passed away on March 2nd, 2025.

David was known for the many roles he carried in life—husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and a successful small engine business owner. He was a man whose presence was felt in the best way, always bringing warmth, laughter, and genuine connection to those around him.

As a husband, he was fiercely loyal and deeply devoted to his wife, Sue. As a father, he cherished his children, Jaimee (Lamin), Nicole, Kyle, and Derek, always ensuring they felt supported and loved. As a grandfather, he shared an undeniable passion for sports, delighting in the games his grandchildren, Junior, Kuba, and Luella love to play. As a brother, he upheld the values and morals instilled in him and his siblings, Ellen (Rod) Bolterman, LuAnne (Gary) Ekern and Jane (Joe) Deml. As an uncle, his love was always present, leaving an imprint on the hearts of his nieces and nephews. As a friend, he never missed an opportunity to talk about the things in life that brought him the most joy.

Born on March 11th, 1961 to Everett and Lucille Breyer, David’s childhood was one he spoke of often and fondly. Growing up in the house next to his father’s shop, spending time there, playing sandlot baseball, and forming lifelong friendships—these experiences shaped the man he became. He later took ownership of Breyer’s Sales & Service, turning it into not just a business but a gathering place. Whether it was friends stopping by to chat or the infamous after-hours “tune-ups,” the shop was an extension of David himself. Today, his son Kyle continues those traditions along with dedicated employees, Brad, Joe, and Kay. David’s love for baseball and Minnesota sports was woven into his life. He shared his love of sports with his children, especially Jaimee and Derek, whether it be attending Twins games, Viking’s training camp, or just conversations of “maybe this is the year”. David was so proud of Nicole becoming a nurse and never failed to mention it at every medical appointment. And among the greatest joys of his life was meeting his wife, Sue. They enjoyed traveling to Ixtapa, spending time at the boathouse, and being around friends and family including Fred and Connie Sandvik and Kim Betz.

David Breyer will forever live in our hearts and memories. He was a man who made this small community a better place simply by being who he was. David had a gift for making people smile. He was a storyteller, a steady presence, and a man who left a lasting impact on everyone he met. How lucky we are to have known him.

Never forgotten. Always loved.

“One by one, only the good die young. They’re only flyin’ too close to the sun. We’ll remember, forever” -Brian May (Queen)
