Darwin E. Severson

Darwin E. "Butch" Severson, 76, passed away August 16, 2019 at Gundersen Health System. Darwin was born on September 10,1942 to Wilfred and Fern (Geary) Severson.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis "Dog/Dino" Severson, niece, Kathy Hegenbart and nephew, R. Scott Bjorge. He is survived by his daughter, Kristin (Scott) Jerome, grandsons, Josh Butzman, Jaydon Butzman and Alex Jerome; his son, Jonathan (Angela) Severson and grandchildren, Addison Severson and Nathan Osborne; nieces, Jennifer (Jon) Jellinger, Angie (Tony) Schaefer, Lesa (Frank) Schiffer and nephew Wade (Andrea) Bjorge.

Darwin was born in La Crosse, Wi. He graduated from Central High School and also served with the National Guard. Darwin worked with Dairyland Power for over 20 years as a Draftsman, he then worked at Trane Company until retirement. Darwin also worked many part time jobs along with his full time jobs, his favorite was bartending.

Darwin loved sports. He followed all of the Wisconsin teams from high school to professional. He was a great softball and baseball player, Darwin was also an accomplished bowler. He was part of the 700 club along with being a Tri State champion.

Darwin loved to cook. He loved to grill and made fantastic chili and chicken dumpling soup.

Darwin loved his grandchildren.  He loved spending time with his family especially around the holidays when he could spoil them with lots of gifts. Darwin also loved spending time with his friends at the local taverns talking and bs'ing.

Darwin touched many people’s lives in many ways. Whether it was through work, sports, family, having a cold beer or serving a cold beer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Schumacher Kish Funeral and Cremation Services; 200 West Avenue South; La Crosse WI, 54601. Rev. Scott Skogen will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of services.
