Darlene M. Anderson

Darlene “Dar” Marjo Anderson passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. She was 86 years old. Darlene was born in MacIntosh, MN on November 30, 1938, and was the only child of Melvin and Hilma (Bendickson) Hartel. She graduated from Central High School in Crookston, MN in 1956 and then graduated from the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, MN in 1957. After graduation she worked as the secretary to the Polk County Attorney.

Darlene married Marlin Anderson on January 5, 1963, and they moved to West Liberty, IA, where she worked at the University of Iowa as secretary to the Dean of Law. In 1964 they moved to La Crosse, WI, where she was employed by the G. Heileman Brewing Co., three years as secretary to the advertising manager and then thirteen years as secretary to the Executive Vice President.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; and a stillborn daughter.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Marlin; her wonderful son, Shawn (Julie); and three grandchildren, Alyssa, Alyson, and Austin. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Harvey.

Her son was her joy, and she especially loved having his family at their lake cabin in central Minnesota. Although she spent retirement with countless hours as a volunteer at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, being at home was her favorite.

Darlene was loved by all and truly her husband’s “Blondie” and his life.

A private graveside service was held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Cemetery in La Crescent, MN.
