Daniel M. Thompson

Daniel “Dan” M. Thompson, age 81, entered into the joys of eternal life on November 19, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, La Crosse. He was born May 28, 1943, to Vernon and Virgil (Markey) Thompson, in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Dan had a love for life. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his good buddies, always looking forward to the next ride or adventure. He also loved boating, snowmobiling, and remodeling cars. If it had a motor, Dan loved it (except the lawnmower!). 

His utmost passion was his work in the upholstery business. He worked for the family business, Onalaska Upholstery, which he started working at age 10 and fell in love with all things upholstery. He bought the business from his parents in 1975 and worked there until 2016, even though he never truly retired. Dan will always be remembered for his hard-work ethic. He lived by the saying “Work Hard, Play Hard”. He also had an enormous love for his family, who will miss him terribly.

Daniel is survived by his wife: Jackie; children: Lori (Mike) Lewis of Owensboro, KY, Brenda Thompson of Weston, WI, step-son: Terry Baird of Duluth, MN; 6 grandchildren: Erika and Gloria Lewis, Cameron and Sheldon Berg, Brittany Harrsma, and McKenzie Swartout; 12 great-grandchildren; sister: Linda Adams; brother and sister-in-law: Jim and Marilyn Thompson; sister-in-law: Jean and Jeff Hanson; brother-in-law: Jim and Linda Baird; nephews: Tim Hanson and Taylor Baird; and great-niece: Alex Hanson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Michelle Berg of Wausau, WI; brother-in-law: Mike Adams; and in-laws: Jim and Janice Baird of Duluth, MN.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 10AM to 11AM at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 907 Sand Lake Road, Onalaska with a memorial service will be held at 11AM. Interment will take place at Onalaska City Cemetery.
