Dan was born to William and Joyce Riordan (Jacobus) on April 26,1956. He grew up in Onalaska and was a graduate of Onalaska High School.
Dan battled Schizophrenia his whole adult life. Seeing the hurdles that Dan faced has shaped how we view people who are different, who don’t fit the mold.
Through our love for Dan, we learned that even though it is sometimes stressful, and yes, even inconvenient to help and support those who are struggling with life, it is important to give your time and love to those in need. Dan did not have much, but he was always willing to help a friend who was down on their luck. And though Dan never asked for anything he always appreciated the small gifts like socks, coffee, beer, and tobacco.
Dan was a quiet man who kept to himself. He loved reading, animals, his family, and most of all his mother, Joyce. He was a loyal son who called his mom daily to check- in and make sure she was doing well and she loved him dearly. Dan’s road was not always an easy one, but he was content with his life.
Dan died unexpectedly at his home on August 8, 2024. He is survived by his mother Joyce Elsen (Riordan); siblings Michael and (Sue) Riordan of Onalaska WI; Kathleen Subjek of Mindoro WI; William and (Laurie) Riordan of Bloomer WI; Patrick and (Debbie) Riordan of Dresser WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father William Riordan, youngest brother Kevin Riordan, stepfather Richard Elsen, brother-in-law John Subjek and nephew Andrew Subjek.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
