Dale F. Marmsoler

Dale F. Marmsoler, 92, of La Crescent, MN passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the La Crescent Healthcare Center. He was born on March 24, 1931 in Winona, Minnesota to Anthony and Leona (Kieffer) Marmsoler of Altura, MN. Dale attended Altura schools and graduated from Lewiston High School.

As a child, then teenager, Dale worked on his father’s mink farm and worked as a mechanic in their garage near home. Dale was co-captain of the Lewiston High School football team and was given the nickname “Mink”. Dale enjoyed trout fishing Whitewater as well as hunting.

Dale proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1954. Dale supported aircraft as an ordinance man on the USS Randolf, in the Mediterranean, during the Korean War. After his commitment to our country, Dale attended Dunwoody and graduated with a background in refrigeration. On July 14, 1956, he married Gervae Meyer at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rollingstone, MN.

Dale had worked for the La Crosse Trane Company for 12 years, then for Lake Center Industries in Winona, MN as lab supervisor for 25 years. He also worked for several years offering life insurance to supplement his hobby farm purchase in Pickwick. He was a member of American Legion and VFW. Dale also had memberships to the Church of the Crucifixion and Minnesota Forestry Assoc.

Dale enjoyed hunting, gardening, his dogs, and good cigars. He was a conservationist, cost sharing conservation improvements to his property with government supplements. Dale, along with his children planted large amounts of native trees, while also battling invasive species. He served as Supervisor, Winona County Soil and Water Conservation.

Dale’s tributes include VFW Commander Post 1530 La Crosse, WI.; Distinguished Service Award, Junior Chamber of Commerce, La Crosse, WI; Winona County Outstanding Woodland Conservation and Tree Farmer awards.

In addition to his wife Gervae, he is survived by five children; Michael (Claudia) Marmsoler of Oakdale, MN, James (Mary) Marmsoler of Friendswood, TX, Greg (Laurie) Marmsoler of Winona, MN, Abigail “Lori” (Paul) Fuchsel of La Crescent MN, and Dan (Pam) Marmsoler of Austin, MN; three grandchildren; Audra (Joel) House, Anthony (Mariah) Fuchsel and AhnaRae Fuchsel; four great-grandchildren, Hadlee, Beckham, Bridger and Hudson Fuchsel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul; a sister, Jean Belter; a brother, Clyde Marmsoler; a brother-in-law, Ervin Belter.

A private Funeral Service will be held on Thursday May 11 th at 11:30am in the Church of the Crucifixion with Rev. John L. Evans II officiating. Visitation taking place 1 hour prior to service. Burial with military honors will be held in Pine Creek Catholic Cemetery, rural La Crescent. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to La Crescent Animal Rescue and VFW Post 1530 La Crosse WI.
