Clyde William Wobeck

June 10, 1935 — August 27, 2020

Clyde William Wobeck was called to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 27 th , 2020. Clyde was born June 10, 1935 to August and Mabel Wobeck. Clyde was born again as God’s redeemed child in Christ when he was baptized in the name of the Triune God. Clyde publicly confessed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and promised his faithfulness to him when he was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Greenleaf, WI.  Clyde’s early childhood was spent on the family farm in Greenleaf, WI. He attended Greenleaf elementary school and high school in Wrightstown, WI, graduating in 1953.

Clyde served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1957. While in the US Navy he served in different capacities. He was chosen to serve on the USS Staten Island; a support ship to an Antarctica expedition. There he worked with the Seabees and served as Chaplain to the Ship’s crew. After serving in the US Navy he enrolled at Bethany Lutheran College in the Seminary Department; he graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree. At Bethany he met the love of his life Rhoda Bartling. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and History with a minor in Science from Mankato State University then went onto the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Clyde later received his Master’s Degree in Supervision of Instruction and Curriculum from Concordia University-River Forest.

Clyde served his Lord in the teaching ministry for 43 years, receiving his first call to First German, Manitowoc, WI to be Teacher/Athletic Director. He served as Teacher/Principal at St. Luke’s, Kenosha, WI and at Peace Lutheran Hartford, WI. He was History and Religion Instructor in addition to Tennis Coach at Luther High School, Onalaska, WI. Clyde retired from Luther High School in 2000. In his retirement he received a part time call to serve the Hmong as their outreach coordinator for the Hmong Ministry.

Clyde met the love of his life Rhoda Bartling at Bethany Lutheran College and married in 1962 by Rhoda’s father, Pastor Frederick Bartling at Immanual Lutheran Church, Freeport, IL. They enjoyed 57+ years of God’s Blessings together. God blessed them with 3 children. Rev. Matthew Wobeck (deceased), Martha Witt (Dr. Steven) and Ruth Kinstler (Daniel, Commander, US Navy, Retired) .   They were also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren Gideon Wobeck, Jacob Witt (Marisa) and their children Ella and Kayden, Rachel Nelsen (Brandon) and their children Faith and Addisyn, Warrant Officer 1 Isaiah Witt (Olivia) and their children Aubree and Austin, Noah Witt and Hannah Witt. Rebecca Brueggeman (Alex) and their child Ryan Brueggeman, Joseph Kinstler (fiancé Lauren Blasczyk) and Sarah Kinstler.

Those left to mourn in addition to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clyde is survived by a brother August Wobeck (Donna) and sister-in-law Rita Wobeck.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents August and Mabel Wobeck, brothers Warren Wobeck (Violet), Earl Wobeck (Joy), Ruth Steckman (Ralph), Lila Frerich, Carol Bernie (Baars), Eldrid Wobeck. Rev. Fred & Vera Bartling and Brother-in-law Rev. Mark Bartling.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bangor WI where he was a faithful communicant member on Monday, August 31 st at 11:00 am with viewing starting at 9:00 am until time of service. Burial at Onalaska Cemetery immediately following service. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran School Fee Assistance Fund, St. Paul’s Church General Fund or St. Paul’s Luther High Tuition Assistance Fund.

The family would like to thank the Gundersen staff, Dr. Barry Stahl, Dr. Thomas Londgren, Dr. Lisa Gundersen and Dr. Ed Overholt. And thanks to St. Croix hospice for their loving, caring support, especially Aubrey and Jojo. A very special thanks to Pastor Roy Hefti for his many prayers and visits.
