Claudia F. Knobloch

Claudia Faye Knobloch, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Gundersen Lutheran Health System – La Crosse. She was 82 years old. She was born in Cedar Falls, IA, on October 5, 1941, to Clarence and Alma Sommerfeld. The couple later divorced. Sadly, when Claudia was just eight years old, tragedy struck her family in a car accident that claimed the lives of her mother and stepsiblings, Shirley and David. Clarence married Kathryn Witcraft and together they raised Claudia, Mervin, and Curtis in Racine, WI.

Claudia graduated from De Soto High School in 1960 and later attended WWTC, where she took some accounting courses. On August 9, 1961, Claudia married the love of her life, Dale Knobloch, in La Crosse. Claudia enjoyed attending stock car races with Dale and fishing, however, her true joy in life was spending time with her beloved grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will be forever treasured. Claudia also had a deep affection for sports, especially football and baseball. She even coached baseball and was a diehard fan of the Green Bay Packers.

Claudia is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dale; children, James (Theresa) Knobloch and Ann (Wallace) Bump; son-in-law, Scott Corrao; grandchildren, Michael (Kristen) Corrao, Lauren (Alex) Schroeder, Kyle Knobloch, Jordan Gray, Brandon Bump (Brooke Buman), and Madison (Corey) Meyer; great grandchildren, Jett and Mollie Corrao, Frankie and Lou Schroeder, and Declan Gray; brother, Curtis Sommerfeld; sisters-in-law, Jeanette (Cy) Harris, Barb Wright, and Vicky (James) Cordes; many nieces and nephews; and her favorite kitty cat, Brownie.

Claudia was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Corrao; father and stepmother, Clarence and Kathryn Sommerfeld; mother, Alma Long; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Myrtle Knobloch; brother, Mervin (Gloria) Sommerfeld; sister-in-law, Maureen Sommerfeld; brother-in-law, Darryl Wright; and nephew, Todd Wright.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse, WI 54601. Visitation will be held from 10:30 am until the time of services. A private burial will be held at Walnut Mound Cemetery in Retreat, WI.

The Knobloch family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated nurses and doctors on the 3rd and 6th floors at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. Their exceptional care and compassion for Claudia provided comfort during this difficult time.
