Charles “Charlie” Smith, 46, of La Crosse, died on Friday, November 24, 2017 at his home. He was born on March 16, 1971 in La Crosse to Oliver and Patricia (Stover) Smith. He married Emily Hauser on August 5, 2005 in La Crosse.
Charlie’s life was cut short, but each moment was jam-packed with love and laughter. Charlie was a devoted father, a loving husband, a brilliant businessman, generous to his community, and all-around jokester.
Charlie was the owner of King Furniture in Holmen. His nutty sense of humor gave the place it’s spark. He was dedicated to all his employees, who he considered nothing less than family.
Charlie showed his love and dedication to his family every day. Charlie never missed a game, an extra run down the ski hill, or pinewood derby. He even took up Bigfoot hunting to support his children’s interests. Rumor has it, Charlie found a wildly creative way to prove the big-footed giant exists.
Charlie loved to ski! His passion for skiing started as a child and took him to Montana State University for college. Back home again, he graduated from University of Wisconsin La Crosse and could be frequently seen at Mount La Crosse. He worked as the treasurer for the Mount La Crosse Ski Team. His generosity took his role way beyond that of a treasurer. Charlie was always eager to give and his kindness knew no bounds.
Charlie was a problem-solver who could create or fix anything. His industrious nature came in handy when helping the Cub Scouts with pinewood derbies, magic shows, launching rockets, building birdhouses, and his annual impressive (close- up) 4th of July firework displays.
Charlie leaves behind a story of love, laugher, passion, generosity, and compassion that will forever cement a smile. He will be forever missed by his loving wife Emily, his young children Ivan, Adrian, Gordon, and Alex. His mother and father, Patricia and Oliver Corky Smith, and four brothers, Steven (Glenna), Kenneth (Kathy), Mark and Michael (Holly).
