Charles Lonning Weber
Our Bubba
June 21, 2024 - September 16, 2024
Charles “Charlie” Lonning Weber passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on September 16, 2024. He was born on June 21, 2024 to Moran Lonning and Alex Weber in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Charlie stole our hearts the moment he was welcomed into this world, which just so happened to be on his exact due date. Many of our friends and family were able to meet handsome Charlie, and boy, was he getting more handsome by the day. We loved everything about our little “Bubba”. His tiny fingers and toes. His loud voice. Those piercing gray eyes. His expressive eyebrows (got those from Dad for sure). His powerful farts (probably also from Dad). How plump his cheeks were becoming - so perfect for our kisses. We gave him as many as he would let us give.
He recognized us more and more. He had begun to smile so frequently at us. His smile was so big and it’s hard to put into words what it meant for us to see him happy. The baths. Bathtime was our favorite with Charlie. The first couple baths were rough, but he soon became relaxed in the tub and we began to treat each session like a day at the spa. It’s hard to reach a consensus when he was at his cutest, but certainly his bathtime hooded towel was one of our most favorite of his looks. We thankfully had spa night the day before his passing. He loved when we laid him on his changing table. Mostly because Charlie loved the blow dryer - really our most lucky life-hack of parenting we found. We used it to dry him with his diaper changes and soothe his sorrows - he just loved it. Whatever we could do to ease Charlie's struggles - we did it. Whatever we were told could make him feel more comfortable - we tried it.
If you came to visit us, we were probably holding him tight, belly to belly, bouncing on our exercise ball. Bubba was very specific on how he liked things. He let us know. A lot. Loudly. We miss that - we miss it terribly. He was loved by so many and we loved sharing our beautiful Bubba with everyone. He probably had more visitors during his first week of life than most people have in years. But as he got older he became a little more partial to Mom and Dad. We called it fussiness or colic, but we are now sure he just knew he wanted to spend the most time he could in Mom and Dad’s arms. In hindsight, we are thankful for his cries for us, as we got to be selfish and cherish every snuggle. We are sorry for those who tried to hold him, but he was just so particular for Mom and Dad.
More than anything else, Charlie loved being able to see the world around him. He would fight falling asleep. He would never stop moving. He eventually only wanted us to carry him facing forward, guiding us to where we needed to be. We are now certain that he just didn’t want to miss out on the beautiful world around him. Now he won’t need to fight sleep, or to struggle to look where he wants. As an angel, he can see everything around us, and be everywhere with us. He is in a place more beautiful than our human minds can possibly comprehend. We can’t imagine how much joy that must bring to our beautiful baby boy.
Our sweet Bubba. You will always be with us. We are always a family, and we will always be because of you. We will always miss you, but we will always feel you guiding us through our lives together. Through it all. Always. Forever. Our sweet Bubba.
