August 28, 1945 — May 31, 2020

Charles Charlie” Marx, 74 of La Crosse, Wisconsin passed away on May 31, 2020 at the Benedictine Living Community of La Crosse. He was born August 28, 1945 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Henry and Evelyn (Olsen) Marx .

He was a graduate of New Troy High School, Class of 1963 and attended Olivet College, Western Michigan University, Winona State University and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse earning Masters Degrees in History and Library Science.

While working on his education he was a park ranger at Warren Dunes State Park in Sawyer, Michigan and had a lifetime love of the dunes and Lake Michigan. He also worked as an educational librarian at Olivet College and retired from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse library as the Head Cataloguer.

Charlie was active in the community and the Democratic party. He traveled extensively and visited his family and friends on a regular basis, participated yearly in RAGBRAI cycling, and also was a member of the Stratford Festival in Ontario. He was a great supporter of women’s volleyball and a backgammon and trivia champion.

It’s easy to say Char was a trivia wiz, but he had the type of intellect that would put Google search to shame!
