Cecelia M. Horn, 84 of La Crescent, died surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. She was born in La Crosse on August 28, 1933 to Aaron and Clara (Boehm) Zumach. On December 5, 1954 she married Wilmer Horn in Caledonia, MN and he preceded her in death on April 13, 2000.
Cel will be remembered for her famous turkey dinner for Mardi Gras and her years as a cook for Crucifixion School. She was named La Crescent Woman of the Year in 2003. Cel was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, a 4-H Leader, CCD 2 nd grade teacher, and also a member of the Happy Twirlers Square Dancers. She had many favorite memories of her travels overseas. Cel also loved to identify all of the bird species visiting her feeding boxes.
Cel is survived by six children; Patricia (Bruce) Brown of Houston, MN, Charles Horn of La Crescent, Kathleen (Conrad) Chenault of New Berlin, WI, Amy (Tim) Trotman of Blooming Prairie, MN, Chris (Wendy) Horn and Matthew Horn both of La Crescent; grandchildren, Angela, Aaron, Nicholas, Greg, Benjamin, Emilene, Maria Jo, Kaylin, Cameron, Melissa, Lee, Jill, Allan, Patrick, Chris, Jr., Katie and Clara; 14 great-grandchildren and a brother, Greg (Carol) Zumach. In addition to her husband, Wilmer she was preceded in death by a son, Alan; her parents; a grandson, Andrew; a brother, Carl; two sisters, Elaine and Phyllis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 20 th at Crucifixion Catholic Church in La Crescent with Rev. Gregory Havel officiating. Burial will follow in Crucifixion Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday at the church from 4-7 P.M. where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 P.M. Visitation will also be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass.
Cecelia’s family would like to thank her extended family in her frequent Doctor visits over the years. She dearly loved each of them. Carol, Chuck, Mary, Sharon, Renee and the staff at Mayo La Crescent Clinic.
