Catherine Howerton

Catherine “Katie” Howerton, 94, of Dresbach, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Benedictine Manor in La Crosse. She was born on December 23, 1928 in St. Paul, MN to John and Cecelia (Zimmer) Murphy. She married Loren Howerton on May 23, 1953 in Mason City, Iowa. In her early years Katie’s time was spent homemaking and sewing clothing for her family. She then worked at La Crosse Rubber Mills for a number of years. She loved fishing on the Mississippi River and travelling.

She is survived by two daughters Catherine Murphy and Carol (Paul) Shimshak of Dresbach, MN, one son Greg Howerton of Dresbach, four grandchildren Stephen Shimshak, Aubrey Howerton, Lindsay Killilea and Taylor Killilea, two great grandchildren Leonel and Lauren Shimshak. She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers John, Robert, Francis, Hugh and Donald Murphy and one sister Cecelia (Wally) Vartmann.

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Schumacher – Kish Funeral Home, 111 S. Oak St., La Crescent, MN.
