Carrie (Kasperson) Pearson, age 97, of La Crosse, WI, passed away February 5th, 2024, at Riverside Transitional Care. Carrie was born in Delavan, MN on December 18th, 1926, to Joseph Helmer and Agnes
(Lokensgard) Kasperson. She married Ray Pearson on October 3rd, 1953.
Carrie graduated from Delavan Consolidated High School, Delavan, MN in 1944. She then attended Mankato Commercial College and completed her secretarial education in 1945. She began her secretarial career shortly thereafter. It was that career that enabled her to meet her future husband, Ray. They worked together at both Queen Stove Works and Trane Company. In addition to her career, Carrie was a loving mother, spouse, and an active member of her churches: growing up at Faith Lutheran in Delavan and growing old at St Paul's Lutheran in La Crosse. Among many different roles she taught Sunday school, organized bible school, and even once served as a counselor at a weeklong bible camp. Carrie loved to celebrate her Norwegian heritage, especially through her cooking. In addition to baking cookies, every year at Christmas she graced her family with a delicious meal of meatballs and gravy, mashed potatoes and rutabagas, lutefisk, and, of course, lefse. And don't forget the fruit soup - just ask her grandson Ben. Later in life, after moving from their longtime house in La Crosse, WI, Ray and Carrie moved to Eagle Crest where they grew to cherish the community they resided in and the relationships they fostered.
Survived by her loving daughter, Debra (Bryan) Tornow; grandchildren, Kyle (Kaitlyn) and Ben (Megan) Tornow; great grandchildren, Vivienne, Eleanor, and Stella Tornow, and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Ray, her husband of 67 years and two sisters, Bernice (Merle) Edge and Evelyn (Walter) Whitney.
A Celebration of Carrie’s life will be held on Friday, February 9th at The Faith and Life Center at Riverside Transitional Care in La Crosse, WI with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. and a memorial at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Linda McPeak will officiate. Private burial will be held at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, La Crosse, WI. Memorials preferred to ELCA World Hunger.
