Carol Ann (Styba) Vogel, 77, passed away on October 9, 2024, at Springbrook Village in La Crescent, MN, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. She was born on October 31, 1946 in Winona, MN, to Ed and Bernice Styba. Carol graduated from Cotter High School in 1964. One day in 1965, she loudly whistled at a young stud, Bill Vogel, as he was walking down the street. The following year, on March 26, 1966, they wed at St. Stans.
Carol was known for her big heart, caring nature, vibrant sense of humor, and enjoying a beer (or two) a day. A devoted wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, her laughter and favorite hand gesture were expressions of her fun-loving spirit.
She cherished her hobbies, which included shopping, bowling, crocheting, and sewing - particularly Halloween costumes for her kids and grandkids. Carol was also known for her skilled hand at giving perms, whistling, and unrivaled baking - with chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin bars, pistachio dessert, sugar cookies, and apple pie bars being family favorites.
She leaves behind her husband, Bill; sons, Tim (Lisa) and Jeff (Suzanne Nolop); daughters, Tanya Unangst (Brad) and Leah; granddaughters, Ciera Sweeney (Connor), Bri Carroll (Jack), Madison Barrett (Malcolm), Rylie Unangst, and Harper Renner; grandsons, Paul Vogel, Slade Unangst, and Jack Renner; great-granddaughters, Mila Barrett and Sylvie Carroll; and great-grandson, Theo Barrett. She is also survived by sisters, Jeanine Scherbring and Chris Springer, and her forever friend, Nancy Schoh. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, John and Bill.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17th, from 4pm to 7pm at Schumacher Kish Funeral Home in La Crescent, MN. Additional visitation will take place from 10 am to 11am on Friday, October 18th, at Crucifixion Church, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 am. Luncheon will be held immediately following Mass at Crucifixion School auditorium.
The family wants to thank Moments Hospice and the staff at Springbrook Village - especially Carol’s favorites: Kalie, Ashlynn, Olivia, Courtney, A’Marie, Alicia, Becca, Lori, Nikki, and Elizabeth. The family also wants to thank Dr. Nordstrom, Father Evans, and Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home.
Carol's life was a testament of love, family, and the joy of everyday moments. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who knew her.
