Carol Marit Hanson (Voge), 84, of Holmen, WI, passed away on January 24, 2024. She was born on June 25, 1939, to Arne and Stella Voge in Iron Mountain, MI. The family moved to Minnesota where she graduated from Butterfield High School in 1957. Later in her life, she became an RN after graduating from WWTI in La Crosse, WI.
Nursing was the perfect career for Carol, and she was an excellent nurse who cared deeply for every patient she had. She worked at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse for many years and has many friends from her time there. She retired in 2002.
Carol met DeLyle Hanson in high school and they were married in 1958. They were blessed with 3 children and had many, many adventures over their 65 years of marriage. Family was most important, and she found so much joy in being a mom and grandma. She was known for having a green thumb and turned every home they lived in into a showcase of beautiful flowers and gardens that was the envy of the neighborhood. They moved from MN to IA and finally to WI in 1977. Carol and DeLyle lived many years on Brice Prairie where they built a tight circle of forever friends with neighbors who were always ready for fun. After retirement, they spent many winters in Orange Beach, AL where she loved fishing in the Gulf and having fun with their friends down there.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Arne and Stella Voge; step-dad, Ed Hanson; and brother, Sid Voge.
Carol is survived by her husband, DeLyle Hanson; her son, Todd Hanson (Ava Grimslid); daughters, Jill Hanson (Fabio Anderle), Cyndee (Kerry) Redfearn, and Marilu Stepien; grandchildren, Morgan and Chanlyr Kissel, Zachary Redfearn and Taylor Hanson; sister, Ardis (Voge) Erickson; brother, Ellery Voge.
Carol/Mom was so beautiful in every way: loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. She will be deeply missed but we are forever grateful for the legacy and lessons she leaves with us as we go on. We are happy that she can rest peacefully and can remember the wonderful life that she helped create for all of us. We’ll see you in every beautiful sunset.
The family is so thankful for the wonderful care that she received at Onalaska Care Center and for the caring assistance of Gundersen Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, 410 Main St., Onalaska, WI 54650 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jason Stanton will officiate. Graveside services will be held at Onalaska City Cemetery.
