BRUCE H. “BOOTS” MICHALKE, 87, OF LA CRESCENT PASSED AWAY ON WED FEB. 1, 2023, AT HIS HOME. HE WAS BORN JULY 10, 1935, IN LA CROSSE TO MICHAEL AND ELSIE (EBERT) MICHALKE. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS CHILDREN AND STEP-CHILDREN, MARY (BUTCH) DAHL OF EYOTA; JOHN (ANN) BOMA OF LA CRESCENT, PETE (CHERYL) BOMA OF BROWNSVILLE, TONY (JANICE) MICHALKE OF GREEN BAY, WI, RICHARD (SUE) MICHALKE, JIM (ROXIE) MICHALKE, JOE (JANE) MICHALKE, AND LARRY MICHALKE ALL FROM LA CRESCENT; HE HAS 21 GRANDCHILDREN, AND 44 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, AND MANY NIECES AND NEPHEWS. HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY ONE SISTER, KATY (ROGER) GAARE. BRUCE IS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS; WIFE, MARCELLA “BABE” (RANDALL) MICHALKE; 3 SISTERS; AND 3 BROTHERS. BRUCE ENLISTED IN THE ARMY AND SERVED IN COMMUNICATIONS IN PARIS. HE WAS HONORABLY DISCHARCHED AFTER AN ACCIDENT IN THE ARMY. BRUCE WORKED AT HANSON SHOE STORE, AND AFTER THE ARMY HE WORKED AT LA CROSSE TELEPHONE COMPANY AS A COMMUNICATIONS PUNCH KEYBOARD. HE PROCEEDED TO GO TO SCHOOL AND WORKED AT IBEW LOCAL 953 OUT OF EAU CLAIRE. HE THEN BOUGHT SHAMROCK LANES IN LA CRESCENT AND AFTER HIS WIFE PASSED, HE RETIRED AND SOLD SHAMROCK LANES. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL WILL BE HELD AT CRUCIFIXION CHURCH, 420 S 2ND ST., LA CRESCENT, MN 55947. WITH REV. JOHN L. EVENS II OFFICIATING AT 11 AM ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 8, 2023. FRIENDS MAY CALL ON THE FAMILY AT THE CHURCH ON WEDNESDAY FROM 10 AM UNTIL THE TIME OF MASS. BURIAL WITH MILITARY HONORS PROVIDED BY THE GITTENS-LEIDEL AMERICAN LEGION POST 595 WILL FOLLOW AT THE CRUCIFIXION CATHOLIC CEMETERY.
