Beverly Ann Sage

September 10, 1935 — May 20, 2020

Our sweet mom, grandma, and friend went to heaven in her home surrounded by family May 20, 2020. The youngest child of Gilbert and Rose (Krenn) Barry, Bev was born September 10, 1935 in Tomah WI. She graduated from Tomah High School in 1953 and went on to St. Francis School of X-ray Technology (now Mayo), graduating in 1957. That same year, she married her high school sweetheart, Marv (Poncho) Sage on September 7. Marv and Bev settled in Onalaska WI and raised their 3 loving children. Our childhood was filled with many Euchre games at grandma’s and trips to the country to visit the Schmitz family.

During her career she worked for the Onalaska School District for 25 years in the high school guidance office. It was impossible to go anywhere with her without running into someone she knew. Everyone who knew her describes her as a joy, greeting you with a smile and always putting others before herself. She was a wonderful example of living out her faith.

She was an amazing wife and mother who gave us many traditions that will live on. Board games and cards were always part of our get-togethers. It brings a smile to all of us to picture her acting out Guesstures or being buzzed during a game of Taboo. Luckily for us, baking was one of her many hobbies. We especially looked forward to her rhubarb and pecan pies each holiday. Packer parties were a favorite among her family during football season. It was almost more fun to watch her reaction to the plays than watching the game itself.

Traveling was something Bev enjoyed and we have great memories of trips to Hawaii, out west, New York, Boston and most recently our cruise to the Caribbean. Another outing she very much enjoyed was her annual summer trip with her 3 close classmates. Her and Marv also loved their casino trips together with their many friends. While continuing to be active in her retirement, she was a devoted member of St Pat’s Parish in Onalaska, made many new friends at the YMCA and very much enjoyed playing cards, exercising and taking trips with them.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Marvin Sage, parents Gilbert & Rose Barry, her sisters Lauretta (Elmer) Loew and Sylvia (Harold) Ebert and her brothers Edward (Bernice) Barry and Bernard (Jeannette) Barry.

She is survived by her loving children Cindy (Steve) Bluske of Onalaska, Mark (Jeannette) Sage of Onalaska and Lori Sage of West Salem. Her cherished grandchildren Katie Bluske of La Crosse, Tyler (Lyndzey) Bluske of Phoenix AZ , Fallon Anderson of Des Moines IA, Colton (Yessenia) Chandler of Onalaska, Everett Miller of West Salem, Alaina Miller of West Salem, and Emily Miller of West Salem and several great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday May 30 th at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1031 Main St, Onalaska with Msgr. Steve Kachel officiating.
