Betty Valley

Elizabeth “Betty” Valley, 85, of La Crosse, WI passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse. She was born January 31, 1932, in La Crosse, to Max and Margaret (Puent) Wanninger.

Betty was a member of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith.

She dedicated her life to her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty married the love of her life, Maurice “Maury” Valley on September 7, 1950 in La Crosse. They enjoyed 62 years together. Their four children: Stephen (Barbara) Valley of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kay Hauke of La Crescent, MN, Debra (Tom) Johnson of La Crosse, WI and Daniel (Marg) Valley of La Crosse, WI; grandchildren: Michael Valley of Jacksonville, FL, Janet (Todd) Kuehl of New Glarus, WI, Emily (Zach) Graham of West Des Moines, IA, Adam Hauke of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Daniel (LeeAnn) Johnson of Ringle, WI, Anthony (Sarah) Johnson of Madison, WI, Matthew Valley and Ben Valley of La Crosse, WI and Emily Valley of Holmen, WI; great-grandchildren: Michael Valley Jr. and Abby Valley of Jacksonville, FL, Rhys Graham of West Des Moines, IA, two great-grandchildren coming in July and her loving companion pug, Christy.

Betty enjoyed camping, her card club, morning coffee with the neighborhood ladies and spoiling her children and grandchildren. She loved serving with her husband as a special deputy with the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department. She is remembered by her loved ones for her kindness as well as making the best apple pie slices, potato dumplings and coleslaw.

Betty is survived by her siblings, Marie Buehler, Ken (Millie) Wanninger, Rita (Ken) Schroeder, and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maury Valley and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 13th at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston Street, La Crosse, with Rev. Lawrence B. Berger officiating. Family and friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. South, La Crosse, from 5-7 p.m. on Monday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass on Tuesday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. on Monday. Burial will follow the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.
