Betty Jean Schumacher

July 14, 1945 — January 30, 2021

Betty Schumacher, age 75, of La Crosse passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 30,

  1. Betty was born on July 14, 1945 in La Farge, WI. The daughter of Donald Nelson and Mable (Clark)

Nelson. Betty attended high school in Viroqua, WI. She later married Darrell Schumacher in Viroqua, on

September 5, 1964. Early in life, Betty worked as a courtroom stenographer. Most importantly, as a

homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Betty possessed an energetic spirit, uncommon generosity, and a deep love for family and friends. Her

grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart, but she was affectionately

known as “Grandma Betty” by all who knew her. Betty never hesitated to speak her mind and always

enjoyed sharing a good laugh.

She could often be found daubing in the bingo hall, trading jabs around the card table, or tending to her

flower garden. Betty was no stranger to the kitchen and loved providing meals for friends, family,

neighbors, or whoever walked through the door. The impact of her unconditional love toward others

has spread across generations. She will be greatly missed by many.

Betty is survived by her husband Darrell Schumacher of La Crosse; her children, Denan (Jim) Johnson and
