Betty Jean Holberg

Betty Jean Holberg, 80, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem. She was born in Farmington, Wisconsin on May 30, 1936 to Clarence and Emma (Storandt) Kastenschmidt. She graduated from Central High School in 1954, and married James Holberg on June 30, 1955 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. They were married 61 years.

She is survived by her husband James; daughter Debra (Mark) Byers of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren Andrea (Jonathan) Smith of Las Vegas, NV, and James (Ann) Chadwick of Idaho Falls, ID; great-grandchildren Alion, Alira, Mako, and Payton Chadwick, and a Chadwick baby and a Smith baby both on the way; sisters Lois Barton of Iola, TX, Dorothy Evenson of Ettrick, WI, Karyl Draeger of Macomb, IL, and Judith Draeger of Watertown, WI, and brother George (Joyce) Kastenschmidt of Winona, MN, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Phyllis Kasten and Jessie West, and brother Claire Kastenschmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue S., La Crosse. Reverend Roger Sachs will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Alzheimer’s research and prevention are preferred. The family would also like to encourage you to join the Alzheimer’s Prevention Registry at www.endalznow.org .
