Betty Jean Freybler

July 29, 1938 — January 20, 2025

La Crosse

Our mother Betty Jean Freybler was called home into the loving arms of Our Savior Jesus Christ on Monday January 20th, 2025. We are sure our father Alby was waiting there too.

Betty was born on July 29th, 1938 to Kenneth and Alice Wermuth (Lord). She was a proud graduate of the Old Central High School in 1956. She worked at the Bodega in La Crosse. She then moved with her friend Shirley and worked in a canning company in Milwaukee WI. They had a ball and shared their apartment with a monkey Jojo.

She married Robert Flottmeyer on September 5th, 1959, and was widowed in November of 1960. She then married Albert Freybler on May 5th, 1962, they were devoted to each other and our mother rarely missed a day visiting in the 3 years our father lived in the nursing home.

Betty and Alby had nine children, Debbie (Terry) Willer, Kevin and (Nancy) Freybler, Susie Freybler, Jean (John) Sims, Mary Gilbertson, John (Judy) Freybler, Joe (Stacy) Freybler, Ellen (Eric Brownell) and Becky Pantzer.

Betty was a grandmother to 29 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren with the 41st on the way.

Our mother had a servant’s heart and dedicated her life to raising her children. Once they were in school, she along with her friend Joy Hanson started the first Licensed Family Daycare in the city of La Crosse. Betty served on boards for WECA and the Family Child Care Association. Betty also was a Girl Scout leader, a Den mother for Cub Scouts and a CCD teacher. Betty served on the Roosevelt PTA and held every office as well as being on the committee for the development of the new Logan high school. Mom was currently the President of the Tenant Association at Forrest Park High Rise where she had resided for the past 20 plus years.

Mom was a master at crocheting and the crafter of all crafters, we all have handmade gifts to remember her by. She loved a good Sunday drive, traveling to wherever you were willing to take her and attending anything her grandchildren and greats were involved in.

Betty was predeceased by her husband’s Robert and Albert, her parents and in laws including a son in law Kevin Gilbertson, and her two sisters Nadine Hole and Marlene Berg.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her sister Carol Jacobson, her bother in law Robert Freybler (Bev), sister in laws, Elizabeth Blackburn, Monica Forer and Peggy Flottmeyer, as well as former son in laws John Pantzer and Mark Spaag.
