Betty Rose Corser, 88, of La Crosse, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at the Hillview Health Care Center.
She was born September 23, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo., to George and Mildred (Henneberger) Nerlich. She married David Corser on June 10, 1954, in St. Louis. Betty worked as a secretary during their courtship and in the early years of their marriage. She and David lived in Kansas for a short time while David served in the Army.
Betty was a devoted wife and mother and a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed passing on the arts of canning, bread-making, sewing, knitting and other crafts, intermingled with a beautiful example of faith, prayer life and trust in the Lord. She was involved in many organizations as a volunteer or lay minister. She taught youth religion classes and did other parish volunteering, and visited the elderly nuns at Villa St. Joseph, sometimes with her children accompanying her. She volunteered at the Red Cross and La Crosse Public Library. Betty served in the pastoral care ministry to patients at St. Francis Hospital and St. Joseph’s Health Care Facility, as well as companioning fellow residents while she lived in various care facilities herself. She was an avid rosary maker, a member of Prayer Shawl Ministry and, as a Third Order Carmelite Lay Sister, she spent many hours in prayer for others and the Church in her later years.
Years ago, Betty enjoyed fishing and playing Hearts and Canasta with her children, playing the organ, and feeding backyard birds. She also had some dearly loved dogs through the years.
