Bette Jean Hastings, 76 of Stoddard, passed away of dementia at the home of her daughter in West Salem with her family by her side. She was born June 22, 1946, in Red Wing, Minnesota to Gordon and Elaine (Helgeson) Hayden and graduated from De Soto High School.
In 1965 she married Carl Hastings and they later divorced but remained friends until Carl passed. Bette had worked for the La Crosse Trane Company as a tool crib attendant from 1974 until her retirement in 2006.
Bette enjoyed visiting the casinos, playing euchre, watching cartoons, especially Tom and Jerry and her cats, Bonnie, Clyde and Joey. She loved attending family get togethers and spending time with her grandchildren.
Bette is survived by four children; Carla (Bob) Friet of West Salem, Randy Hastings of Stoddard, Shayne (Brandy) Hastings of Wonewoc, WI and Cori (Tom) Tri of Belle Plaine, IA; 12 grandchildren, Melissa (Bob), Trevor (Nikoll), Cole (Emily), Nathan, Calvin, Cameron, Alysha, Savanah, Steven, Katelyn, Josh and Jake; four great-grandchildren, Ariyah, Elijah, Evelyn and Easton; three siblings, Holly (Paul) Goman of Michigan, Gary (Paula) Hayden of Iowa and Merri Sue Snyder of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Ray Carl Hastings; a sister and brother-in-law, Lana (Michael) Culver.
A Celebration of Bette’s life will be held at a later date.
