Barbara Ann Murphy

Loving wife and mother, Barb Murphy, of La Crosse passed away on hospice at the home of her daughter in Savage, MN on Sunday August 22, 2021. She was born the youngest of 9 children to Adolph and Marie (Schwaller) Lofy in Waukesha WI on March 28, 1933. She is survived by one brother Chuck (Mary) Lofy. She graduated from Mercer High School and St Agnes Nursing School. On November 3 ^rd , 1956, she married Dr James T. Murphy. After a year of service in Japan they lived in Milwaukee WI, and then La Crosse, WI where they raised their 11 children. They belonged to St Thomas More Parish and supported Aquinas High School. Barbara was active in the Aquinas Booster Club, Boys and Girls Club, La Crosse Family and Children’s Center and Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.

Barb is survived by her children: Steve Murphy of Cincinnati OH, Patrick (Ana) Murphy of Sheboygan, WI, Maureen Fitzgerald of St. Paul, MN, Marcy McHenry of Eagan, MN, Jerry (Lori) Murphy of New Berlin, WI, Kathy (Scott) Ferris of Chicago, IL, Mary (Rod) Murphy Kruse of Savage, MN, Mike (Heidi) Murphy of Wausau, WI, John (Christine) Murphy of Onalaska, WI, Eileen (Fred) Plagge of Sun Prairie, WI and Dan (Betsy) Murphy of La Crosse; 32 grandchildren, Erin (Brian), Amy (Joe), Ashley (Jorge), Molly (Luke), Marcus (Kaitlyn), Maggie, Dylan, Katelyn (Ryan), Kelly, Jennifer (Dustin), Nick (Daniela), Jake (Michelle), Josh, Jessica, Kara (Jeremy), Rachel, Ryan (Amanda), Bradley (Alyssa), Kate (Cameron), Riley, Ally, Matt (Taylor), Gretchen, Tayne (Jake), Ralph, Samuel, Arden, Tom (Emily), Joe, Chris, Jack and Maddie; 10 great-grandchildren, Elliot, Lucas, Ellyana, Jaydalyn, Malakai, Aniyah, Sully, Carson, Odin and Marlow. Barb was preceded in death by her husband Jim on March 4, 2002, her parents, six sisters one brother and a granddaughter, Lindsay.

Barb's family would like to thank the staff at Benedictine Manor as they were her friend and caregivers during COVID and to Minnesota Hospice from Lakeville for their caring in mom's last week.

Memorials are preferred to the Aquinas Booster Club the La Crosse Family and Children’s Center or Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.
