Arthur A. Yost, 95, of La Crosse, died on Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
He was born in La Crosse on January 31, 1922, to Arthur and Ruth (Van Kirk) Yost. He attended St. John’s Grade School and was a graduate of Aquinas High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served until 1946, spending two years with the Army Air Corps in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12, and Thomas Rooney V.F.W. Post 1530.
Following his discharge from the service, Art attended the Layton Art School of Milwaukee and the Art Center School in Los Angeles. His career as a design artist took him to California, Colorado and Minnesota until his retirement.
Art married Mildred L. Hosch on October 26, 1943, and she preceded him in death on August 31, 1983. Art later rekindled an old friendship from high school with Marie (Arlt) Rick at their 45 th class reunion. He moved back to La Crosse after they married on October 11, 1985.
Art is survived by his wife, Marie; a daughter, Julie Chodek of Eagan, Minn.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Ricky (Coree) Chodek, and their son, Franklin, of Seattle, Wash., and Kristen (Matt) Jesse, and their son, Michael, of Apple Valley, Minn., and David’s sons, Tony and Ryan Yost; a step-son, Ron (Diana) Rick of Onalaska; sisters, Geri Opdahl and Jeanne Holliday, both of La Crosse; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife, Mildred, Art was also preceded in death by a son, David Yost; and sisters, Margery Brower and Emily Anderson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 30 th , at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, 2006 Weston St., La Crosse. Rev. Brian D. Konopa will officiate. Burial will take place in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Veseli, Minn., at a later date. Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family.
