Arnold “Arnie” Pinski, 95, of Onalaska and formerly of La Crosse, died on Friday, September 15, 2017, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse
Arnie is survived by Ruby, his loving wife of 69 years; his sons, Ken (Sue), Rich and John; his grandchildren, Ross (Renee) and Mark (Cortnee); his 5 great-grandchildren; his brother and best friend, Lorenz “L.P.”; his sister, Betty Olson; and special nieces, Jill Schee and Lynn Sullivan.
He was born August 29, 1922 to Robert and Cora (Kuecker) Pinski in Spring Grove, Minnesota. He graduated from Central High School in June of 1940. He attended the University of Kansas in Basic Engineering as part of the Army Specialized Training Program.
Arnie was a proud veteran of World War II, enlisting in November of 1942 and serving in the Central Europe Campaign with the 42 nd Rainbow Division in the 242 nd Infantry Regiment in Intelligence and Reconnaissance, where he was awarded a Bronze Star
After his discharge in April of 1946, Arnie joined the firm of Davy Engineering and retired in 1987 as a Registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers as well as the Western Chapter of the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers.
Arnie was active in professional and civic organizations, including president of the La Crosse Optimist Club. He was a life-long member of First Evangelical Luthern Church, where he served as one of the head ushers and also held several terms on the board including president.
Arnie loved fishing, hunting, skiing with Ruby, going to “the farm”, telling Ole and Lena jokes, trying to beat Ruby in cribbage and playing banjo/harmonica with his sons and grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 20 th at First Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 West Avenue South, La Crosse. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Barre Mills. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Luther High School or First Ev. Lutheran Church.
