Ardelle S. Doering

November 1, 1929 — August 9, 2023

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ardelle on August 9th, 2023, she was 93 years old. Ardelle was born November 1, 1929, in Liberty Pole, WI. She was born at home on the farm and was the third daughter of Edwin and Grace Rudser. A self-proclaimed “dad’s girl” she loved spending time with him doing chores and preferred time outdoors to the housework. Her mother emigrated from Norway with several brothers and sisters and together with her father’s large family, the value of hard work and family traditions was set in stone.

She married her perfect match, Thomas Doering, on April 22, 1950, and their 64 years of adventure was kicked off! They have four children, Richard (Barbara) Doering, Kathryn (Bud) Walker, Nancy (John) Rieder, and Linda (Gary) Vehrenkamp. Ardelle and Tom loved having the house filled with people and laughter. They enjoyed any time they could spend together with family and friends, and there was always another chair to be found for the occasional newcomer to the bunch!

Ardelle was a homemaker until she went to work at St Francis Hospital as a cashier in the cafeteria, where she worked for nearly 20 years. Her sense of humor and quick smile created many friendships that she enjoyed over the years. She and Tom bowled in a couple’s league, and later she joined a women’s league, finishing that career at 87 years old! She was a member of the La Crosse Senior Center and was a fierce card playing competitor! In fact, she enjoyed all kinds of games and was a quick learner on how to master them to ensure a win! Anyone playing a game with Ardelle learned quickly, they better be willing to accept a loss!

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, seven grandchildren; Jessica (Ron) Vining, Phil (Heidi) Doering, Grace (Darrell) Johnson, Greta (Chris) West, Eva (Sean) McManus, Carolyn, and Jack Vehrenkamp. She has eight great-grandchildren: Malerie and Hayden Vining, Lauren and Hailey Doering, Eleanor and Louis Johnson, Juniper and Edgar West, and a little McManus on the way! She is also survived by her extended family, including special family members Bev Kratt, Sharon Hauschild, and Kathy Rudser.

She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to us all. She was a force of nature, strong willed and independent. She never liked to say goodbye, so “see you next time!”
