Ardell “Art” Stanley Gran, 82, died on Friday, January 17, 2025 of lung cancer at the Gundersen Tweeten Care Center in Spring Grove, MN. He was born on February 7, 1942 in Caledonia, MN to Einar and Stella (Myhre) Gran. Art was a lifelong resident of La Crescent, Minnesota and lived a quiet life. He graduated from Central High School in La Crosse, WI in 1960. Art served his country in the US Army from 1962 to 1964, serving in Germany and Ft Gordon, Georgia. He was a member of American Legion, Post 595, in La Crescent for 45 years and participated in numerous Memorial Day ceremonies, veterans' funerals, and marched in the Apple Fest Parade, always carrying the American Flag in these events.
Art was an excellent painter and worked for Degner Painting, and Justin Painting in La Crosse. He enjoyed bowling in leagues and winning many trophies. He also enjoyed watching the Twins, Vikings, and Nascar races on TV and was an avid jigsaw puzzler and enjoyed fishing.
Art is survived by 3 brothers, Lowell (Carol) Gran, Red Wing, MN, David (Sue) Gran, Mesa, AZ, and Roger (Vickie) Gran, Bloomington, MN. Five nephews, Brad Gran, St Louis Park, MN, Christopher Gran, Fairmont, MN, Philip (Sarah) Gran, Golden Valley, MN, Andrew (Miraya) Gran, Bloomington, MN and Shawn Gran, Phoenix AZ. One niece, Michelle Hogue, Rochester, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private burial has taken place. Special thanks to Gundersen Tweeten Nursing Home staff and Gundersen Hospice caregivers, especially Suzie. Memorials may be sent to American Legion Post 595 La Crescent, MN.
