Alvin "Big Al" J. Muenzenberger

Alvin J. “Big Al” Muenzenberger, 72, of La Crosse, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024. Al was born in La Crosse on May 10, 1951, to Albert and Madeline (Anderson) Muenzenberger. In 1970 he married Irene Maxwell and together they raised two children, Lynnette and Douglas. Al served his country in the National Guard for six years. Al and Irene moved their family to Eau Claire, WI where Alvin and his twin brother, Alan, established Al’s Pizza Wagon. Some years later they moved back to La Crosse where they created and opened Big Al’s on 3rd St. in 1979, which they owned until 2009. After the sale of Big Al’s, he semi-retired but continued working for his son and brother at their respective pizza restaurants for the next few years until full retirement. Al enjoyed coin collecting, listening to the Beatles, photography, and going to estate sales. During his years with Big Al’s, he also played bass guitar for a couple of local bands, Radio Flyer and Studebaker 7.

Al is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene; children, Lynnette Muenzenberger (Rick Beckner) and his son, Zach Beckner, and Douglas (Shannon) Muenzenberger; grandchild, Felix Muenzenberger; twin brother, Alan Muenzenberger; sister, Bonnie (Norman Walker) Korger; nephews, Keith Kirchner, Brent (Beth) Kirchner, and Jeremy Korger; and niece, Amber Korger.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Linda Kirchner.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse, WI 54601.
