Almira Strittmater Gantka

Almira was born in La Crosse on July 25, 1931, to Oliver and Mabel (Wolden) Brown. She attended La Crosse schools and proudly received her GED when she was in her 40’s.
Almira worked as a factory worker and bookkeeper, and she also waitressed at several area restaurants, including Wally’s Knotty Pine, which she also co-owned. She was an avid bowler for many years, bowling in several area leagues, and once bowled a perfect 300.
Almira is survived by her children, Ardie Harper of Onalaska, Fran Bentley of Portland, Ore., Donna (Dan) Stenberg of Holmen, David Strittmater of Mason City, Iowa, and Joy Buchman of La Crosse; twenty grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; and six great, great grandchildren. She is further survived by her siblings, Irwin (Ida) Brown of Cottage Grove, Ore., Doris Enking of Beloit, Wis., Pat Schultz of Ramona, Cal., Robert Brown of Las Vegas, and Anita (Darwin) Beck of Blair, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Gene Mason, Wally Strittmater and Francis Gantka; a son, Donald Strittmater; a grandson, Brennan Harper; and two siblings, Bill Brown and Betty Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 23rd, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1931 Loomis St., La Crosse. Rev. Anne Hokenstad will officiate. Entombment will take place in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church.
