Alice Harter, 64, died June 16, 2020, with her family by her side in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
We are gathering to celebrate Alice's life on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Private family service will be held at 11:00 AM followed by a public visitation from 12 – 2 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1201 Avon St., La Crosse.
Alice was born June 23, 1955, in La Crosse to Clara Kapanke & Lloyd Harter. Her father Lloyd started their family business. Her mother Clara was a homemaker and mother to Alice along with her 9 brother's/sister's.
When Alice was young she spent summers having adventures with her siblings and playing with close neighborhood friends. She graduated from Luther High school. Alice attended college at Winona State in Winona MN to obtain her nursing degree. After graduation, she spent the next 34 years working as an LPN helping those who couldn't help themselves. While bringing sunshine, joy, laughter and happiness to those around her!
She was an active member of the church and belonged to the American Legion. She served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S Army for 12 years.
Alice had many interests although most of them included her family. She loved watching all the children at family functions while interacting with them. She loved reading, bowling, playing cards and collecting her "precious treasures". Alice was always up for a good political or religious debate. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, patients including her mother until she passed away at age 85.
No matter Alice's challenges she always approached life with a smile! She was always there if you needed an ear, a shoulder or even a helping hand. Alice lifted peoples spirts where ever she went. All those that knew her will always remember her and be strengthened by her uncompromising and unconditional love.
She instilled that same love, faith in God and trust with everyone she knew in life. Her smile, laughter and humility will be remembered in our hearts forever. Today we see that perhaps they are not stars in the sky but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy!
We think of you in love today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday and days before that, too. We think of you in silence, we often speak your name. Now all we have is memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping Alice, we will always have you in our hearts!
Alice is survived by her sister's Carol Johnson (Harter), Chris Brown (Harter), Bonnie Johnson (Harter), Ruth Deml (Harter), Barb Breidel (Harter), Sue Titter (Harter); brother's David Harter, Gary Harter and Rob Harter; her 2 sons and their spouses, Noah & Bambi Rolbiecki (Harter), Nic & Jill Ostreng (Breidel); and 5 beautiful grandchildren; Hannah Harter, Elizabeth Harter, Davis Breidel, Cayden Breidel, Alec Jaymes (AJ) Breidel
She was preceded in death by her parents.
