Dale Richard Merten

Dale Richard Merten, 53, of Holmen, WI, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in his home. He was born on December 29, 1963 in Sauk Centre, MN to Anthony and Rose (Wiess) Merten. He grew up in Sauk Centre, MN and graduated from Sauk Centre high school in 1982. He graduated from NDSU with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1987. He worked as a civil engineer for Los Angeles County for two and a half years before moving back to the Midwest to work for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation La Crosse office where he worked for WisDOT for 26 years. In 1987 he married Linda Betow, they were married for 27 years before divorcing. They had two sons together Jeffrey and Paul. He enjoyed fishing repairing cars, home improvement projects, and camping. As a family, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.

He is survived by his sons Jeffrey and Paul of Onalaska. His mother Rose Merten of Sauk Centre, MN. Siblings Marilyn (Harry) Fiedler, Rosemary (Jaime) Cabanilla, Michael (Dorene) Merten, Carol (Bert) Williams, David (Rose) Merten, Patricia (Patrick) Mehrer and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Anthony Merten.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at the Schumacher-Kish & Cremation Services of Onalaska, 907 Sand Lake Road. Deacon Frank Abnet will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
